Shehzad Khan, known for his role as Bhalla in the 1994 film Andaz Apna Apna, recently opened up about his five-year absence from Bollywood. In an interview, Khan expressed his frustration with the current state of the industry, stating that he can’t engage in what he calls “chamchaagiri” or sycophancy, which he believes is now prevalent.
A Shift in the Industry
Khan attributes his absence from films to the changing dynamics of the industry. He notes that a new group of casting directors has emerged, favoring a select few actors and repeatedly casting them in their projects. “Now, there’s a community of casting directors who are also acting,” Khan observes. “They have their own set of actors they work with. After doing numerous films, I don’t think I’m expected to indulge in such practices.”
A Straightforward Approach
Khan describes himself as a straightforward person who performs roles based on his capabilities. “Give me a role, and I’ll do it to the best of my ability,” he says. “I’m a worker, not just an actor. I want to keep learning and working until my last breath.” Despite his extensive filmography, Khan can’t recall the exact number of films he’s done over the years.
Diverse Experience
In addition to his film work, Khan has appeared in several web series. “We’re actors. We do our job, get paid, and go home,” he explains. “Producers and OTT platforms know what to do with us.” Khan is also vocal about social issues, often participating in news debates and speaking out against injustice.
Respect for Leadership
Khan emphasizes that he speaks without bias and supports individuals who do good work, regardless of their political affiliation. “I respect my Prime Minister and believe everyone should do the same,” he adds.
