Carlo Ancelotti, the famous Italian coach now leading Brazil’s national team, has found his stride. He recently spoke with ‘France Football’ about many things, from his decision to leave Neymar out of recent games to his hopes for the 2026 World Cup. Ancelotti shared how fully he has adapted to life in Brazil.
He explained how easy it has been to settle in. Ancelotti said the pace is different, and he wanted to truly understand the country’s culture. That’s why he made Rio de Janeiro his home. He found a very well-run football federation. The CBF President, Samir Xaud, and Director, Rodrigo Caetano, are both fantastic and full of energy, he noted. Ancelotti enjoys a great and serious work environment. He brought his assistants, but needed nothing else. The setup, he said, is perfect.
The coach also explained why Neymar missed the last few games. Ancelotti made it clear that the forward must be completely fit to make the final squad. He believes a national team should have the most talented players. That’s a given. However, a talented player also needs to be in top physical shape. They must be 100%, not just 80%. Neymar is getting better physically. Ancelotti says Neymar is without doubt the most talented Brazilian player. He had a small physical issue but got better quickly. Still, Ancelotti wants him truly fit and ready to play. Neymar can join the World Cup team if his fitness is excellent. There is no question about his skill. His goal must be to be ready by June. It doesn’t matter if he makes the team in October, November, or March.
What if Brazil has to play against his home country, Italy, in the World Cup? Ancelotti laughed, saying that would be very tough. But, he added, Brazil should win. When asked about who would win the whole tournament, Ancelotti had a strong opinion. He thinks the next world champion will be the team that defends best, not the one that attacks best. That, he stressed, is just how football works.
Many wonder if his time with the Brazil squad will be his last coaching job. Ancelotti revealed something interesting. The only other team he would coach after Brazil is Real Madrid. But he doesn’t think that will happen. He currently has a one-year contract. After that, anything could happen. He might stay for two more years, or even four. He could prepare for another World Cup. He signed for one year because he felt it was the right choice for the upcoming tournament. But right now, he is very happy in Brazil.
