An “unthinkable” feat

How easy it has been, but how complicated it is to link two Dakars consecutively. If winning is already complex, doing it twice to add a total of five is something “unthinkable” that Al Attiyah has been able to do to get just three Touaregs away from being the participant with the most victories in the race (the record is Peterhansel’s eight). “It was not an easy victory, because winning the Dakar is not easy and a lot has happened, but we have tried to resist and have confidence”, says the Qatari, about the course of a test that put him in the face from the first moment.

Nasser hardly had to risk. He activated the maximum attack in the first specials and what came later was a ride where there was no need to push: “We had (margin of) time and we wanted to win again. I didn’t want to push because maybe we could make a mistake.” and those who committed it before, were the perfect example that you could pay very dearly. Above all because “It has been a very, very hard and complicated Dakar, not easy at all”. It has also been unusual, “the weather conditions were difficult for everyone, but winning again makes me happy.” Something logical knowing the way in which the desert has been eliminating rivals.

The key to victory was in a “First week that was not easy, A lot of things happened”, but Nasser was saved once again to defend a title in which his strength and the entire Toyota team that works behind the scenes, have allowed them to repeat a feat that comes accompanied by happiness. “Joy” is the word that most Al Attiyah pronounced after the triumph and after “winning the world championship and the Dakar in 2022 and 2023” in just 365 days, it is time to think about a next edition where he will return to the fray. “We are the best”, he assures, and that cannot be left only in words.
