The Austrian Rainer Predl has run a marathon in the facilities of a meat refrigerator in Vienna, at 25 degrees below zero, giving 782 laps of 54 meters each to cover the 42,195 kilometers with a time of 3 hours and 47 minutes.
As reported on Thursday by public television ORF, the athlete is preparing for a marathon that he plans to run in April 2024 at the North Pole.
“It was exhausting. My head hurt a lot. You notice that you don’t drink much because it’s very cold. That was a problem, and the lap is very short, with 54 metres, so it’s difficult to reach a certain speed.” said Predl, 33, in statements to the station.
The athlete is known for his extravagant projects, such as running 70 kilometers around his kitchen table during the coronavirus pandemic or run for seven days straight on a treadmill.
