An athlete dies in the Malaga half marathon

A runner 58-year-old Norwegian passed away this Sunday after reaching the finish line of the thirtieth edition of the TotalEnergies Malaga Half Marathon, without the health workers who attended him being able to do anything to save his life. The athlete, whose identity has not been disclosed, was attended by doctors from the two mobile ICUs of the Red Cross that were part of the device of this sporting eventwho unsuccessfully performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) on him, according to the Malaga City Council.

The deceased Norwegian runner He had already participated in this same test in Malaga in 2019. The race, organized by Motorpres Ibérica and Málaga Sports and sponsored by the City Council, through Málaga Deporte y Eventos, has had a self-protection plan higher than required in this type of evidence, the consistory specified in a statement.

This plan has included an advanced health post at the finish line, 8 ICUs, 4 advanced life support and 4 basic life support, plus 2 4×4 support vehicles, with the participation of 54 health workers: 9 doctors, 10 nurses and 14 people in charge of first aid, 20 emergency technicians and a coordinator.

Malaga City Council has activated the Civil Protection psychosocial group so that both this and the Parcemasa Guidance and Psychological Support Group assist the relatives of the deceased. During the course of the race, another participant had to be transferred by ambulance to the Virgen de la Victoria University Clinical Hospital in the capital of Malaga.
