Amy Schumer Reveals 50-Pound Weight Loss: ‘I Did It to Survive’ Cushing’s Syndrome

Amy Schumer recently clarified her notable weight loss, attributing the change to a serious health condition. The comedian revealed she lost 50 pounds due to Cushing’s syndrome, a potentially life-threatening illness.

Schumer addressed public speculation about her thinner appearance in an Instagram Reel. The video, filmed by her 6-year-old son Gene, was posted on Monday, December 1.

She explained that her weight loss was not for aesthetic reasons. Schumer stated she underwent the change "to survive" after being diagnosed with a disease that causes extreme facial swelling.

Cushing’s syndrome occurs when the body produces too much cortisol. According to the Mayo Clinic, this can lead to symptoms like a rounded face, high blood pressure, bone loss, and type 2 diabetes. Schumer received her diagnosis in February 2024.

The actress also disclosed that she has used Mounjaro and had plastic surgery in the past. She apologized if her weight loss disappointed anyone, adding, "I am not in pain. I can play tag with my son." Schumer also mentioned her experience with perimenopause and offered to share more details.

Schumer also used the Instagram post to address speculation regarding her marriage to Chris Fischer. Rumors surfaced after she shared photos of herself in a yellow mini-dress without her wedding ring.

The comedian stated she "never wears jewelry." She affirmed that any marital issues were unrelated to her weight loss or her husband’s autism diagnosis. Schumer added, "I cross my fingers that we can get through it, he’s the best."

Schumer, 44, revealed Fischer’s autism spectrum disorder diagnosis in her 2019 comedy special, Growing. She described the diagnosis as a "positive" for their relationship.

She explained in the special that all the characteristics indicating his place on the spectrum were the same reasons she fell in love with him. Schumer and Fischer, 45, married in 2018 and welcomed their son Gene a year later.

Recent reports indicated the couple was "privately working through normal issues" in their marriage. They are both reportedly "committed to the relationship."

Schumer posted the mini-dress photos on Sunday, November 30, a day before her health revelation. Her son Gene made an appearance in one of the images.
