Manchester United squandered a winning position and a late lead against Tottenham in a 2-2 Premier League draw, with coach Ruben Amorim lamenting a decisive play and an injury that forced his side to play with 10 men.
The Red Devils were ahead until the 84th minute before conceding the equalizer in a match where they felt victory was within reach.
Complicating matters, forward Benjamin Sesko sustained an injury with just 10 minutes remaining. With all substitutions already used, United was forced to play the rest of the match a man down.
Amorim, speaking to English media after the match, acknowledged persistent challenges within the team. “We have many problems, we are just at the beginning,” he stated. “Sometimes the results show we are improving, but we still have a lot to do.”
He described the final minutes as “very divided” and emphasized the need for readiness, noting how “one play can change everything and alter the mood in the stadium.”
The coach reflected on how a single moment turned the tide. “Today, we fell back a bit in the second half because we were very comfortable in the game,” Amorim said. “It was one play that changed everything. A cross, a great opportunity, and they scored.”
Despite the setback, Amorim highlighted a positive aspect: scoring while short-handed. “Playing with ten men in the last ten minutes, overcoming everything and scoring a goal is something positive,” he commented.
He added that the team “should have done better, be more aggressive and match the atmosphere of the stadium.”
Regarding Sesko’s injury, Amorim could offer no immediate details. “I have no idea. Since it’s the knee, you never know,” he said.
