Amorim on One Year at Man Utd: “Best Decision of My Life”

Manager Ruben Amorim marked his one-year anniversary at Manchester United by declaring his tenure the “best decision of my life,” despite admitting initial doubts about his future at the storied English club.

The 40-year-old Portuguese coach described his initial 12 months as “difficult,” grappling with significant losses. He confessed to moments where he questioned if he was “destined” to lead Manchester United.

“It was very difficult for me, because this club is the Manchester United,” Amorim stated, adding that the team’s struggles in the Europa League last year were particularly challenging.

“I had some moments when I struggled a lot and thought maybe I wasn’t destined to be here,” he said.

Today, however, Amorim feels the opposite, asserting, “today I feel, and I know, that this was the best decision of my life and I want to be here.”

His reflection comes as Manchester United faces Nottingham Forest, seeking a fourth consecutive Premier League victory.

Amorim noted a growing trust between himself and his players, which he believes is solidified by recent wins. He observed that “everyone is saying ‘wow, they are united and believe in the coach’.”

Despite the past difficulties, Amorim maintained an optimistic public persona, stating it is “my personality” to face challenges with a smile rather than a “suffering face.”

He also remained steadfast in his tactical approach, never abandoning his preferred three-center-back system despite criticism from English commentators.

“I have a clear idea of how I want to do things,” Amorim explained, viewing his 3-4-3 formation as adaptable and requiring time for full understanding.

He added that he always tries to balance his life, acknowledging that football fortunes can shift rapidly, even during a successful period.
