Amine Gouiri Out 3 Months After Shoulder Surgery, Misses Champions League, AFCON

Olympique Marseille striker Amine Gouiri will undergo right shoulder surgery, sidelining him for three months and significantly impacting the club’s European campaign and his international aspirations.

The Ligue 1 leaders announced the 25-year-old Algerian international would miss several key matches, including Wednesday’s Champions League fixture against Sporting.

The decision for surgery was mutually agreed upon by Gouiri and the club, following “several episodes of shoulder dislocation in recent months.” His lengthy rehabilitation period makes his participation in the Africa Cup of Nations for Algeria in December highly unlikely.

Gouiri sustained the injury last Tuesday while on international duty, playing for Algeria in a 2-1 victory over Uganda.

He subsequently missed Marseille’s 6-2 triumph over Le Havre on Saturday, a result that maintained the team’s top position in the French league under coach Roberto de Zerbi.

This season, Gouiri had featured in seven official matches for Marseille, scoring one goal. He arrived at the club in the middle of the 2024/25 season and quickly made an impact, netting 10 goals in 14 appearances.
