The multinational entertainment giant from the United States, AMC, appears to be very enthusiastic about the blockchain technology. The company’s CEO is reportedly even considering launching its own cryptocurrency.
Research into issuing own currency
The entertainment giant has reportedly been doing a lot of research into cryptocurrencies and the blockchain behind it in recent months. According to the CEO, the company was very enthusiastic about this. During this investigation, it was also examined whether AMC could issue its own currency. The CEO said the following about this:
“There are many reasons why AMC could be a successful cryptocurrency issuer as well as a cryptocurrency savior. This is just one of six ideas the company is currently working on.”
Crypto payments by the end of 2021
It is not unknown that AMC is very open towards cryptocurrencies. Earlier this year it was announced that it wanted to accept Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin (LTC) and Ethereum (ETH) for their cinema tickets. Later, Dogecoin (DOGE) and Bitcoin Cash (BCH) were added as possible payment options.
An important reason for adding cryptocurrencies as a payment option would be because their moviegoers would like to use cryptocurrencies as a payment method. This interest in cryptocurrencies is taken very seriously by the company, which favors crypto users. The aim is to allow these payments by the end of this year. This is what the CEO of the company tweeted on the social medium Twitter.

Overcoming some hurdles
To issue its own crypto token in the United States, the entertainment giant still has some hurdles to overcome. Indeed, this is not an easy task due to the increasing regulatory hurdles to be overcome. Social media giant Facebook, among others, has found out the hard way, as investigations into its cryptocurrency issuance plans continue to ramp up.
It is therefore difficult to predict whether AMC will have its own token at all, although there are good signs that research is being done. It is therefore not yet known if one will be released, when exactly this will happen.
