Amazon CEO Andy Jassy’s 2024 Compensation Rises to $40.1 Million with Stock Surge

Amazon CEO Andy Jassy’s 2024 earnings hit $40.1 million, a 37% jump from the previous year’s $29.2 million. This surge is largely due to the significant increase in Amazon’s stock price. In 2024, Jassy held 211,000 Amazon shares, valued at $38.5 million, up from $27.8 million in 2023 when he owned 225,340 shares.

Breaking Down Jassy’s Compensation

Jassy’s total compensation includes:

  • a fixed base salary of $365,000
  • a retirement contribution of $6,900
  • $1.2 million in security expenses, up from $986,164 in 2023
  • $105,000 in HSR fees related to stock purchases or mergers

When Jassy took over as Amazon’s CEO in 2021, he received $212 million in stock, which vests gradually until 2031. Notably, the number of shares he received decreased over time, likely to incentivize long-term growth. In 2024, Jassy didn’t receive any new stock grants.

The ratio of Jassy’s pay to the median employee pay is 43:1, up from 37:1 the previous year. This increase is partly due to the higher security expenses and HSR fees.

To put Jassy’s compensation into perspective, other tech CEOs earned:

  • Satya Nadella (Microsoft): $51.9 million, excluding stock value
  • Doug McMillon (Walmart): $34.9 million
  • Sundar Pichai (Alphabet/Google): $164.2 million
