Amazon brings Matter support to new Echo devices

Amazon is rolling out an update that extends Matter support to more hardware, improving compatibility between the new smart home standard and Alexa.

Since todaythe “2nd Gen Echo, Echo Plus, and Echo Dot” speakers will become Matter controllers for your home network.

The Echo (4th Gen) now supports the Thread protocol, giving you another category of gadgets to control beyond those that work with Wi-Fi, Zigbee and Bluetooth Low Energy Mesh.

As of today, there are “more than 100 million Echo devices across 20 models” that support the Matter smart home standard, according to a post on amazon developer blog. And to help new customers, the update will also allow “Configuring important iOS devices”.
