Amar Kaushik Reveals How Aneet Padda Landed ‘Shakti Shalini’ Lead

Filmmaker Amar Kaushik has confirmed the casting of Aneet Padda in Maddock Films’ upcoming horror-comedy, “Shakti Shaalini.” Padda, known for her work in “Saiyyara,” will take on the lead role. Kaushik recently shared insights into his decision-making process.

Kaushik told Bollywood Hungama that he needed a young actress who could convey both innocence and depth for the film’s character. He was impressed by Padda’s performance in “Saiyyara.” He immediately approached her for “Shakti Shaalini.” Padda accepted the role without hesitation after hearing the script.

“Shakti Shaalini” is set for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026. This film will be the next installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU).

It is notable that this will be the only MHCU film released in 2026. Kaushik explained this strategic choice. He stated, “We do not want to burden audiences by releasing many films in the same year.” He added, “It is better that each film gets its full time.”

The film’s announcement promo garnered significant excitement. It was screened in theaters alongside Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s “Thama.”

The director for “Shakti Shaalini” is not yet confirmed. Kaushik revealed that discussions are still ongoing regarding who will helm the project. Kaushik previously directed the successful horror-comedy “Stree,” starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao.

He also expressed a personal ambition to direct a more intense horror film within the universe. He questioned if audiences would accept a pure horror entry, noting the universe combines both laughter and scares.

Industry experts are calling “Shakti Shaalini” Aneet Padda’s biggest film to date. Her performance in “Saiyyara” was praised for its simplicity and natural acting. This new role is expected to significantly advance her career.
