Altice Portugal: MEO owner with an 11.5% increase in revenue in the 1st quarter of 2022

The owner of the operator MEO recorded revenue growth of 11.5% during the first quarter of 2022. More specifically, in the 1st quarter of 2022, Revenue from Portugal reaches €612.5M. The results were driven by the positive performance of the business and consumer services segments in the reporting period.

At the same time, EBITDA grew by +8.7%, reaching €222M and the Company’s Investment was €102.9M in this period. Also according to the company itself, the start of the first quarter of the year has led to growth in Revenues in all Segments, as well as in EBITDA, with year-on-year variations of +11.5% and +8.7%, respectively.

Altice Portugal presented another quarter with year-on-year growth in the Subscriber Base, in Revenues, in all Segments and in EBITDA.

The year-on-year evolution of Revenues in the 1st quarter of 2022 was based on the growth of the Fixed and Mobile Businesses, the Customer Base and the Company’s Services offer. Thus promoting the trajectory of this indicator and maintaining the growth trend of previous quarters.

In short, Revenues reach 612.5 million euros, increasing by +11.5% compared to the same quarter of 2021.

Solid growth in several lines of operation in Altice Portugal

Both the Consumer Services and Business Services segments presented a solid operating performance and on a growth path. This is based on the commitment to an innovative, diversified and convergent service offer, leveraged on high standards of quality of service, security and robustness of telecommunications networks and infrastructures.

Specifically, in the 1st quarter of the year, the Company registered +215.3 thousand Net Additions in the Mobile Business, of which +96.4 thousand in Postpaid Clients. On the other hand, Fixed Services reached +32.3 thousand Net Additions in this quarter and Unique Clients of the Consumption Segment grew +14.1 thousand in the last 12 months. In this way, leveraged in keeping the rhythm of Altas and keeping the Churn at record levels.

MEO reinforced its leadership position among operators in Portugal

THE MEO, brand of the Consumer segment of Altice Portugal, was distinguished as the operator with the lowest number of claims per thousand customers in 2021, according to the Portuguese regulator in March. This is the result of Altice Portugal’s strategic focus on Customer and Service Quality, demonstrating the Company’s Leadership in the electronic communications sector in Portugal.

In parallel, the MEO held the distinction of “The Best of the Test – Mobile Internet“, according to data from Deco Protesta.

EBITDA grew again in the 1st quarter of 2022, with +8.7% compared to the same quarter of 2021, totaling 222.0 million euros. The growth in EBITDA results from the constant growth of the Subscriber Base that drives Revenues and the discipline to control operating costs.

The investment totals 102.9 million euros in the 1st quarter, reflecting the strengthening of the Mobile Network, the focus on 5G and the expansion of the largest Fiber Optic Network in Portugal, reaching 6.1 million homes served with Optical fiber; +65 thousand new homes were added in the national territory.

The reinforcement of the mobile network boosted 4G penetration to 99.8% in the quarter and the commitment to the implementation of the new 5G technology is essential to guarantee the effectiveness of Altice Portugal’s strategy. In this way, connecting people with the best available technology, to maintain the leadership of the sector in Portugal.

Consumer segment | 1st Quarter 2022

Revenues from the Consumer Segment reached the value of 313.9 million euros in the 1st quarter of 2022, which represents a year-on-year variation of +2.7%. The number of Unique Customers grew by +0.9% in the last 12 months.

The continuous execution of strategic and operational measures proved to be able to face the competitive dynamics and promote increasingly stronger links with customers.

The leadership in all telecommunications services is also the result of the continuous commitment to the pillars of customer service quality and the diversification of the offer.

Business Services Segment | 1st Quarter 2022

Revenues from the Business Services Segment showed a solid performance, standing at 298.6 million euros in the 1st quarter of the year. Something that translated into a year-on-year variation of +22.7% or +5.2% excluding the contribution of Unisono in the 1st quarter of 2022, a company acquired in August 2021.

The solid financial performance of the quarter resulted from the process of transforming the Revenue mix, with a growing flow of new non-Telco business lines. Factors that represent a significant weight in the overall structure of the Segment.

This evolution is based on the success of the digital transition and the quality of service, but also on the reliability and coverage of the networks available at Altice Portugal.

Finally, the trend towards total convergence and the movement of innovative “packaging” solutions aimed at expanding the close relationship with the customer and improving the experience of full use of the services made available to each of them.
