Altice: owner of MEO makes millionaire investment in this region of Portugal

After announcing the investment in Madeira, Altice Portugal is now reinforcing its investment in the Autonomous Region of the Azores. It all happened in a meeting that brought together the Executive Committee of Altice Portugal, the Regional Government of the Azores and some of the largest businessmen in the Region.

Ana Figueiredo, Executive President, was present and announced the new wave of investment in networks, technology and innovation. Support initiatives in the areas of sustainability and social responsibility, which Altice will bring to the Region, were also announced.

Altice Portugal wants to invest 8 million euros in the Azores by the end of 2023

Between 2022 and 2023, Altice Portugal will invest 8 million euros in the region. This will help in the expansion of fiber optics and the modernization of the entire mobile network in the archipelago. The Azores are therefore at the forefront of innovation and infrastructure investment priorities.

“The Azores are at the top of our innovation and infrastructure investment priorities with the aim of creating strategic value. Today, the Azores have one of the highest coverage rates nationwide. We want to continue distinguishing this archipelago, providing it with the best technological conditions for companies and families”, says Ana Figueiredo.

It should be remembered that the Azores already have one of the highest coverage rates at the national level, with 97% fiber optic coverage. Altice Portugal continues to invest in the expansion of this network and in the modernization and expansion of the 4G mobile network and the new 5G generation.

It should be noted that Ribeira Grande, Ponta Delgada and Lagoa are now the municipalities covered by this new wave of investment from Altice Portugal. The Municipality of Ribeira Grande will have a new mobile site in the Fenais da Ajuda parish and the activation of the 5G network by the end of 2022.

Municipality of Ponta Delgada will now have fiber optic coverage of more than 95%

In the case of the Municipality of Ponta Delgada, the largest Municipality in the Azores, it will have fiber optic coverage of over 95% and three new mobile sites in the parishes of Santo António, Ajuda da Brittany and Candelária.

As for the Municipality of Lagoa, it will have fiber optic coverage of more than 95% by the end of 2022, and three new mobile sites in the parishes of Cabouco, Água de Pau and Lagoa, in order to reinforce voice coverage. and mobile. data in and around those areas.

14 new mobile network stations are expected to reinforce coverage in the islands of Santa Maria, São Jorge, Faial, Terceira, Pico and São Miguel. As for 5G, there are currently 6 stations.

By the end of 2022, the activation of another 22 stations is also planned, with the aim of placing this service on all the islands and in all the municipalities, covering about 75% of the population.
