Filtered water brand BWT joins Alpine as ‘title sponsor’ and apart from renaming the team, from this Friday BWT Alpine F1 Team, also brings its characteristic pink for the decoration of the A522, which will be presented on February 21, two days before the pre-season tests in Barcelona. In 2021, Alpine’s car was blue, white and red, the colors of France and Great Britain. In 2022, they will have to square the pink in that very characteristic livery. Beyond the aesthetic detail, the agreement is an important economic bonus for the team, which had no main sponsor.
BWT, with important sponsorships in motorsport in general, and F1 in particular, was one of the partners of Racing Point, and later Aston Martin, although it was displaced by Cognizant and Aramco, respectively, until it remained in a residual place in the decoration of the green car. For Alpine it is “a big step”, they say in the statement, highlighting the goal “of fighting for the title in one hundred races”. “We are excited to announce that BWT will be our ‘title partner’ for the next few years. We both have sustainable agendas that are completely aligned with the elimination of the use of plastics”, describes Cedric Journel, head of marketing for the French car firm. Alpine’s main advertisers include BWT, BP Castrol, Renault’s financial division, the Spanish insurer Mapfre and the E-tech brand, also associated with Renault.
Last year, Alpine finished fifth in the constructors’ championship with Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon. The Spaniard achieved his first podium finish in seven years at the Qatar GP, he was third, while the Frenchman took victory at the Hungarian GP, also supported by a magnificent defense by the two-time Spanish champion against Lewis Hamilton. This season, the goal is to move forward and get closer to the ‘top’ cars. That means frequenting the podium and aspiring to specific victories. Because if they want to fight for the title in a hundred races, the plan cannot go wrong with the long-awaited rule change in 2022.
