Alocén Departs Real Madrid for Granada

Carlos Alocén and Real Madrid have parted ways, bringing an end to his time at the club. The 23-year-old point guard arrived in 2020 as one of the most promising players in Spanish basketball, but a serious injury and subsequent complications prevented him from showcasing his talent. He will now join Dreamland Gran Canaria.

Alocén leaves Madrid with eight titles, including one Euroleague, two Endesa Leagues, one Copa del Rey, and four Super Cups. However, a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee suffered on February 13, 2022, marked a turning point in his career at the club.

After a year-long recovery, Alocén made his return to the courts on November 26, 2023, and despite playing 651 days later, he left a lasting impression. He has averaged 3.1 points and 1.8 assists in the Endesa League and 1.5 points and 1.4 assists in the Euroleague this season.

It takes minutes

Alocén, at 23 years old and with a long career ahead of him, needs to play and in Madrid, where the competition is greater, he was not going to be able to have the necessary minutes to try to meet again with his best version. He hopes to do it in Las Palmas.

Madrid, despite the year of contract that still united them, opens the doors to him and, through a statement, shows him “gratitude and affection for his exemplary behavior and dedication during the time he has worn our shirt and wishes him good luck in his new stage.”
