Almost a ton of methamphetamine seized in northern Mexico

Mexican authorities seized nearly a ton of methamphetamine and other drugs in the city of Mexicali, near the US border.

The drug shipment was located by elements of the army and the Public ministry during a search of a property in the Ejido Sinaloa de Mexicali, Baja California state, the Attorney General’s Office said in a statement on Friday.

During the operation, which took place in the middle of the week, five people were arrested and seized, in addition to methamphetamine, 16 kilograms of fentanyl tablets, 12 kilograms of fentanyl powder, one kilogram of cocaine hydrochloride, three firearms, and 15 cartridges.

In January 2022, elements of the army, the National Guard and the federal prosecutor’s office seized more than 5.8 tons of methamphetamine in the northwestern state of Sinaloa, in what was considered the largest seizure of that drug during the current government that began. in 2018.
