Almonte and Morel say present AC training

Present and future arrived at the Águilas Cibaeñas training ground, when the players Zoilo Almonte and Christopher Morel showed up this Wednesday, to begin to get in shape for the autumn-winter baseball championship that starts on the 27th of this month.

Almonte is one of the main guns that the yellow team has, while Morel is a promising outfielder native to Santiago and who belongs to the Chicago Cubs organization in the United States.

After the usual greetings, both players began to prepare for their first practice, which included an inter-squad match.

“We have had to battle against injuries, but we were preparing to help the Eagles retain the crown,” said Almonte, approached by the national press in an interview via Zoom.

Now I want to use the time to help the Eagles win the championship. "My mentality is the same as every year, I like to play this baseball, because you enjoy it, my mentality is to focus on qualifying for the round robin and then continue beyond."

Asked about what I miss most about the Creole ball, during his absence he said "I really missed the Licey and Aguilas games, games that raise the spirit of competition a lot" .

In Dominican baseball Almonte has been a feared hitter, but injuries and playing in Japan and Korea have slowed his participation in recent seasons.

Even last year he was absent when the harriers won their 22nd crown and in the 2019/2020 campaign he could only act in five games.

“I have come to play ball all the way, we have outstanding debts with the Águilas Cibaeñas team, which we hope to be able to settle with our fans,” said the Dominican slugger who bats on both sides of the plate.

Almonte played three seasons with the Chunichi Dragons in demanding baseball in Japan and this year 2021 he performed for the KT Wiz team of the South Korean Baseball League.

Since Zoilo confirmed that he will play with the Eagles, Ángel Ovalles, Operations Manager projected him as the man who will be in the middle of the champions’ lineup

Morel

Another enthusiastic about his first practice was prospect Christopher Morel, who plays in center field.

“Happy to be able to enter this stadium as a player, since it was a dream, because I grew up in these surroundings,” said the promising player.

Morel comes from scorching 403 at-bats in the minor leagues, firing a total of 90 rockets, among his hits 18 were home runs, scored 65 runs and drove in 66.

In his minor league career Christopher Morel has 34 homers and 256 hits.

The blood of athletes runs through Christopher’s veins since he is the son of former basketball player Rafael Disla and nephew of former slugger harrier Guillermo García.

Morel was the second pick for the Águilas Cibaeñas, in the 2019 LIDOM rookie draft.
