Almería Defender Chumi Suffers Quadriceps Break Out Several Weeks

Chumi’s injury is the latest setback for Almería. The team’s undisputed starter, under Rubi, suffered an injury during training last Thursday and was unable to travel to Gijón for the match against Sporting. According to the club, Chumi has a breakage in the quadriceps of his left leg, which will keep him out for several weeks.

The initial tests have revealed a lesion in the upper part of his quadriceps, but the club is waiting to determine the exact extent of the injury. Sebastián Jiménez, the head of medical services at UD Almería, has scheduled further medical tests for Chumi throughout this week to assess the damage. What’s certain, though, is that Chumi will be joining the list of injured players, including Baba, Rachad, and Gui Guedes, who are all currently in the recovery period after undergoing surgery.

This isn’t Chumi’s first injury – he was previously sidelined in February 2022, which led Almería to sign Rodrigo Ely from the free agents market. Three years on, the former Barcelona player is facing another spell on the sidelines, although the full severity of the quadriceps breakage is still to be determined. Despite this latest blow, and barring a radical change in plans, Almería doesn’t intend to sign a new defender due to their current limitations with the salary cap.
