All Star NBA 2022: what it is, contests, format and rules

The 2022 All Star is drawing near. The weekend of the stars consists of three days in which different recreational and sporting events are held by the best players in the NBA. The highlight is the All Star Game, a friendly game in which only the best players of each year participate, divided into two teams representing each conference (formerly East and West and now chosen by the two most voted players, this year LeBron James and Kevin Druant). The first All-Star Game was held at the Boston Garden on March 2, 1951.. Since then, the best players in history have been brought together in a match for entertainment.

In addition to the All Star Game, in which the MVP is designated the Kobe Bryant MVP Award in honor of the black mambathere are different competitions during the weekend:

  • Rising Stars Challenge: duel between the best young players in the League. Until 2015 it pitted first-year players (rookies) against sophomores (sophomores), but since then the best youngsters from the United States have been pitted against those from the rest of the world. This year there is news, and four players from the G League will also be chosen. The four G League players will join 12 first-year rookies and 12 other sophomores to form four seven-member teams that will contest a mini-Final Four in Cleveland. There will be two semifinals to the first to reach 50 points and the grand finale up to 25 points, in reference to the 75th anniversary that the NBA celebrates this season.
  • 3-point contest: The best three-shot shooters face off in successive elimination rounds until a winner is determined. CJ McCollum (Pelicans), Desmond Bane (Grizzlies), Karl-Anthony Towns (Minnesota), Luke Kennard (Clippers), Zach LaVine (Bulls), Patty Mills (Nets), Fred VanVleet (Raptors) and Trae Young (Atlanta) will be the 8 participants of the 2022 triple contest. Each of them will have 70 seconds to score the maximum possible of the 27 available shots, with a maximum total score of 40 points.
  • Math contest: The best matadors put on the show in one of the most anticipated events of the weekend. They face each other in successive eliminatory rounds until there is a winner. Cole Anthony (Orlando), Obi Toppin (Knicks) Juan Toscano-Anderson (Warriors) and Jalen Green (Rockets) will be in charge of flying in All-Star Weekend. The participants will have two dunks in the first round to get one of the two places for the grand final. In the final round, they will have two more dunks to get the maximum score and win the title.
  • Skills Contest: competition that tests control of the ball. Dedicated mainly to the fastest and most skilled point guards in the League, although more and more tall players are participating. This tournament also has novelties this course: On this occasion, there will be 3 teams of 3 players who will face each other to determine the champion. The first, the Cavs, formed by Jarrett Allen, Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. The second, Antetokounmpos, which, as its name suggests, will bring together Alex, Giannis and Thanasis. And, in third place, the Roks, with rookies Scottie Barnes, Cade Cunningham and Josh Giddey. The NBA has also changed the format of the competition. There will be three rounds in which the level of each team in shooting, passing and relay will be measured. The best two will advance to the final, in which the one who manages to score from midfield will win.
  • Competition shooting stars: game of two teams of three players, each consisting of an NBA player, a component of the WNBA women’s league and a retired legend.
