Alinghi Red Bull Racing enters competition mode with its two AC40s

Alinghi Red Bull Racing is taking over the race course of the 37th Barcelona America’s Cup. Just a few days after launching their second AC40 one-design, the Swiss team has started training in Match Race mode (boat against boat) and the sensations are unbeatable. In addition, giant steps continue to be taken in preparation for the pre-regatta in September, which will be held in the AC40 class in Vilanova i la Geltrú.

“Everything we have trained for months in Match Race mode with the simulator at the Barcelona regatta course will finally be applied in the water. This means much more pressure in maneuvers than when we sail alone.”, explains helmsman Maxime Bachelin. With the AC40s in the water, all members of the Driving Group will be able to sail at the same time, so the competitive mode is already active: “No matter which crew you sail with on board, the goal is always to beat the other boat,” he warned. trimmer Bryan Mettraux. The crew is already supported by Pietro Sibello and Dean Barker and will also be joined by Phil Robertson and Jason Waterhouse.

“These first few days with the two AC40s on the water have been a great success. The dynamics of training with two boats will allow us to have more consistency within the crew. We can train for specific situations that we will encounter on the water this fall during the pre-regattas”, comments trimmer Yves Detrey. Of course, although both AC40s are an excellent training tool to prepare for regattas, Alinghi Red Bull Racing’s main focus remains the AC75. The tests continue to progress on the boat with which the Jug of the Hundred Guineas will be fought for in 2024 in Barcelona.
