Buying things online can feel like playing a lottery. You see a fantastic deal, click “buy,” and then cross your fingers. Sometimes, though, the universe has a strange sense of humor. This is exactly what happened to a YouTuber named The Inja after he made a rather big purchase from the Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba.
The Inja was on the hunt for a new electric sports car. He found a listing on Alibaba that caught his eye, a “Chinese electric sports car” priced at $31,000. It seemed like a steal for what looked like a genuine performance vehicle. The seller had even obscured the car’s true logos, making it seem like a generic, but still exciting, offering.
The car he aimed for was the Qiantu K50. This is a real Chinese electric sports car, known for its distinct look. Qiantu Motor designed and built it. However, its production stopped in 2020. Only a little under 200 units were sold before that, according to CNEV Post reports. The K50 boasts a sleek, futuristic design.
When the actual delivery arrived, it was a moment of pure shock. The large box held something entirely different. Instead of a powerful sports car, he unboxed a small, two-tone vehicle. It was pink and white. It looked more like a tiny “kei car” from Japan than a performance machine. To top it off, it sported a fake Lexus badge.
The Inja, predictably, was not pleased. He shared his whole experience five years ago in a video that quickly went viral. After a long back-and-forth and a dispute with the seller, he did manage to get some of his money back. It was a partial refund, but better than nothing. This story serves as a reminder to always proceed with caution when making big buys online.
