Alexis Bautista, a native of Hato Mayor, was proclaimed champion of the 93rd version of the traditional La Vega-Moca-La Vega Marathon, after traveling the 42 kilometers and 195 meters in a time of two hours, 27 minutes and 47 seconds, which established a new record.
Bautista from the first outing in Duarte Park, from La Vega maintained strong competition with his brother Alberto Bautista and Franklin Peña, from Santiago and who had won the previous version of the Marathon run in 2019.
However, Peña had to settle for second position when entering with a time of 2 hours, 29 minutes 8 seconds, escorted by Alberto Bautista, also a native of Hato Mayor, who registered 2: 29; 31.
During the first 36 kilometers, the three runners alternated in first place until with 6 to go, Alexis picked up the pace, leaving his brother and Peña behind to win the marathon, an event that concludes the country’s Olympic calendar.
They completed the first eight places to arrive at the Bepensa goal placed in front of the La Vega town hall and lead the winners of nearly 700 thousand pesos in prizes, José Guzmán in fourth place with a time of 2:32, 47 seconds; Domingo Monsanto, fifth with 2: 33.26; Eduardo Disla was sixth with 2.37.48, while Braylin Santana was seventh with 2.42.05 and Mario Medina eighth with a time of 2.47.11.
Julio Salcedo finished in tenth and became the first vegan to reach the Bepensa finish line and took the special award.
The 14-kilometer sub 23 male youth category was obtained by JoaquÃn Disla, from Bonao with Alexander de la Rosa and José Ramón Graterol in second and third place.
On his side, the first three places in the men’s sub 34 were Amaury RodrÃguez, Julio Medina and Orlando Bautista. Also in the female superior 14 kilometers the winners were Soranyi RodrÃguez with 52 minutes and 20 seconds, Viageisy Jiménez finished second with 55:21 and Ydelsia Yoils Juan was third with a time of 56:53.
