Alexa Grasso is back in the win column. The former flyweight champion delivered a terrifying first-round knockout to Maycee Barber in the co-main event at UFC Seattle on Saturday night. The bout ended abruptly at the 2:42 mark. Grasso landed a crushing left hook that sent Barber crashing to the canvas. She immediately pounced on her unconscious opponent, locking in a rear-naked choke before the referee mercifully stepped in to stop the fight. The devastating sequence halted Barber’s seven-fight win streak and instantly reinserted Grasso into the championship conversation.
The stakes for the bout were massive. Barber entered the octagon riding immense momentum. She had won seven straight fights since her last loss, which coincidentally came against Grasso via unanimous decision back in February 2021. Barber also overcame a severe, life-threatening battle with pneumonia, a staph infection, and the Epstein-Barr virus in 2024 to claw her way back to the top of the division.
Grasso needed this win desperately. The 32-year-old was on a three-fight winless skid. Her shocking 2023 title win over Valentina Shevchenko felt distant after a draw, a loss in their trilogy bout, and a subsequent decision defeat to Natalia Silva last year.
