Álex Txikon is already at home

The Biscayan mountaineer reached the winter summit of Manaslu on January 6. He then returned to Kathmandu to do some business, returned to the mountain with a trekking and collected all the material so as not to lose equipment and for ecological awareness. Txikon had speculated on the possibility of stopping in Pakistan on the way back to help a group of mountaineers who were in trouble in the Baltoro area. But he has come home.

The climber has arrived quite tired and the call was only for graphics. He has barely crossed a few words with the media that have gone to the airport. “Finally at home. Thank you very much to all those who have accompanied me on this adventure and have followed the progress of the expedition and trekking step by step. Now it’s time to regain strength”, he commented as soon as he landed.

Álex Txikon did two treks in Nepal before reaching the Manaslu Base. He was on Makalu and Everest. In fact, he planted himself on the mountain well acclimatized thanks to the time he had spent in the high valleys of Nepal. Once at Manaslu, made a fast expedition and in semi-alpine style that allowed him to reach the summit with enough speed. Total winter, without artificial oxygen and with the help of several Sherpas who did carry bottles.

The one from Lemoa had already reached the summit of Nanga Parbat in winter a few years ago. In recent years he has specialized in attempting ascents during this time. “I have been doing the same in recent winter seasons and, just for having reached the top this time, I don’t think I have done better or worse than in other years. In that sense, I feel somewhat empty“, sentenced Txikon.
