Alex Carey Sets New Record As First Australian Wicketkeeper Batsman

Alex Carey’s remarkable achievement

Alex Carey became the first Australian wicketkeeper-batsman to score 150 or more runs in Asia. He surpassed the previous record held by Adam Gilchrist, who scored 144 runs in 2004 at the same ground in Sri Lanka. This is also Carey’s first century in Asia. During his innings, Carey struggled initially on a pitch that favored spin but later played beautifully. He faced 188 balls and scored 156 runs with 15 fours and 2 sixes.

Partnership between Captain Smith and Carey

The Australian team lost 3 wickets for 91 runs during their first innings. However, Steve Smith, who is captaining the team in this series, and Alex Carey shared a 259-run partnership for the fourth wicket, strengthening Australia’s position in the match.
