The Mallorcan forward Alba Torrens signed this Saturday in the semifinals of Eurobasket 2023, against Hungary, the highest score in this penultimate meeting of the championship since the 2009 edition, and his 27 points were key for Spain to qualify for the final. Torrens opened the clash with 10 goals in a row and finished the game with nine hits in his thirteen field goals. In addition, he added 4 rebounds for a total of another 27 PIR credits in the 26 minutes he was on the court.
As confirmed by the organization of the tournament, since the American nationalized Russian Becky Hammon scored 28 points against Spain in the semifinal of this same tournament in 2009, no player had scored so many points in a match that gives access to the final. Torrens has returned to Eurobasket after being absent from the last two editions because he could not play the 2019 edition due to a knee injury and the 2021 edition because he tested positive for coronavirus two days before the tournament.. The Mallorcan returned to Spain last summer to play for Valencia Basket, which she helped reach the Euroleague quarterfinals and win the league title, but the agreement for its renewal has not yet been completed.
