Al Jazeera accuses Israel of ‘cold-blooded murder’ of Palestinian correspondent

The Qatari network Al Jazeera accused Israel of having "murdered in cold blood" to one of its journalists, the Palestinian Shireen Abu Akleh, during a raid this Wednesday by the Israeli Army in the city of Jenin, north of the occupied West Bank.

"In a tragic premeditated murder that violates international laws and norms, the Israeli occupation forces, in cold blood, killed our reporter, Shireen Abu Akleh"the Doha-based Al Jazeera International Network said in a statement.

the journalist passed away after a bullet hit him in the head, while another fellow journalist, Ali al Samudi, was wounded with a bullet in the back and his condition is stable, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

"We condemn this heinous crime, which is intended to prevent the media from carrying out its message, and hold the Israeli government and occupation forces responsible for the murder of the late colleague Shireen"points out the Qatari chain in the statement.

Al Jazeera also called on the international community to "condemn and hold accountable the Israeli occupation forces for deliberately attacking and killing our colleague Shireen Abu Akleh".

Al Jazeera producer Ali Al Samudi was also "attacked by being shot from behind during coverage and is now being treated"said the media, without giving more details about his state of health.

Both journalists wore their vests identified as press and she had been working for Al Jazeera since the start of the Second Intifada.

The Israeli Army indicated that during a raid on the Jenin refugee camp, "armed suspects" they opened fire against the security forces and threw explosives, prompting the officers to fire back.
