Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar released his first look as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in his upcoming Marathi film ‘Vedat Marathe Veer Daud Saat’. He shared a short video on his social media account, after which some fans on Twitter were not so impressed with the actor’s appearance, while some criticized him for his factual error.
Taking a screenshot of the video shared by Akshay Kumar, one fan pointed to the light bulbs and wrote in the tweet, “Shivaji Maharaj ruled from 1674 to 1680. Thomas Edison invented the electric light bulb in 1880. This Akshay Kumar is playing the character of Shivaji. At the same time, many other fans have also shared similar tweets.

Fans trolled the actor remembering his stellar performance in the ‘Samrat Prithviraj’ movie of the same name. One user wrote: “Akshay Kumar will now fill the small gap left in Emperor Prithviraj by playing the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.” While another user wrote: “After destroying Prithviraj Chauhan, Akshay Kumar and Bollywood are ready to destroy another historical figure and this time it is Shivaji Maharaj. Bollywood is prohibited from making movies about historical figures!

The film will be released in 2023 in Marathi, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It is directed by Mahesh Manjrekar and apart from Akshay, the film also stars Jai Dudhne, Utkarsh Shinde, Vishal Nikam, Virat Madke, Hardik Joshi, Satya, Akshay, Nawab Khan and Praveen Tarde.
