Akshay Kumar to Remake Venkatesh Daggubati’s $30M+ Telugu Blockbuster

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar is slated to headline the Hindi remake of the successful Telugu action-comedy Sankrantiki Vastunam. Reports indicate the actor is preparing to begin filming for the project soon.

The original Telugu blockbuster, directed by Anil Ravipudi, was a significant box office hit. It was recognized as the second highest-grossing Telugu film of its release year.

Sankrantiki Vastunam reportedly earned between $30 million and $36 million globally. Its success has spurred producers to bring its action-comedy narrative to a wider audience.

Sources indicate Kumar was deeply impressed by the Telugu film’s concept and screenplay. This led to his swift agreement to star in its Hindi adaptation.

Dil Raju, who produced the original version, will also oversee the production of the Hindi remake. This maintains a continuity in the creative team behind the successful franchise.

The project’s filming was previously delayed due to Kumar’s busy schedule. A lead actress for the remake has yet to be finalized, with the casting process ongoing.

The plot of Sankrantiki Vastunam revolves around the kidnapping of Indian CEO Akalla during a visit to Hyderabad. A suspended police officer named YD Raju, along with his wife Bhagyalakshmi and former girlfriend Meenakshi, becomes embroiled in solving the mysterious disappearance.

Kumar recently appeared in Jolly LLB 3, which premiered in September. His upcoming slate includes Bhoot Bangla, co-starring Paresh Rawal, Tabu, and Wamiqa Gabbi.

He is also part of the multi-starrer comedy Welcome to the Jungle. Kumar is currently filming Hawaan alongside Saif Ali Khan, Saiyami Kher, and Shriya Pilgaonkar.
