Veteran Hindi cinema actress Madhumati passed away on Wednesday morning, prompting an outpouring of grief from the film industry. She was widely known as a revered dance guru to many Bollywood stars.
Akshay Kumar, one of her prominent students, paid tribute to Madhumati through a heartfelt post on social media. His message expressed deep sorrow and gratitude for her lasting impact.
Kumar wrote, “My eternal guru. Whatever I learned about dance, I learned from you, Madhumati ji. Every move, every expression, I learned from you. Your memory will always be with me. Om Shanti.”
Madhumati was an exceptional dancer from a young age, mastering classical Indian forms such as Bharatnatyam, Kathak, Manipuri, and Kathakali. Her dance performances earned her considerable fame in Hindi cinema, where her style was often compared to that of Helen.
Beyond her own performances, Madhumati dedicated much of her life to teaching. She mentored numerous actors, including Tabu, Bindu Dara Singh, and Akshay Kumar, imparting her profound knowledge of dance.
She married Manohar Deepak at 19 but remained deeply committed to her art. Madhumati considered dance her soul and continued to instruct students until her final days.
