Ajinkya Rahane has this splendid record, apart from him, no Indian captain could do this job.

Ajinkya Rahane’s record is the best among Indian players who have captained at least 5 test matches. Prior to Kanpur’s test match against New Zealand, the team won 4 of the 5 matches Rahane has captained.

In recent years, whenever Virat Kohli was unable to play the match due to injury or was resting for personal reasons, Rahane had the opportunity to lead the team as a substitute captain and Rehane did his brilliant job on those occasions. He has also proven his worth by acting.

He first had the opportunity to be captain in the fourth Test match against Australia in Dharamsala in 2017. And then the series was tied 1-1. In the last Test match, Ajinkya Rahane decided to include Kuldeep Yadav in the game XI despite Jadeja and Ashwin in the team and this decision turned out to be correct. Kuldeep took 4 wickets in the first Australian innings and also made his test debut in Dharamsala.

Hardly anyone had imagined the way the India team has returned under Rahane’s captaincy after having done their best for just 36 runs in Adelaide’s test match in the 2020-21 season. At that time, Virat Kohli was unable to play after the Adelaide Test match for personal reasons and Rahane had the opportunity to be captain. On this occasion, in addition to playing a century in Melbourne, he led the Indian team to victory and on the last day of the final test match in Brisbane, the Indian team won by scoring 324 runs in one day. This series win in Australia is considered one of the most memorable victories in Indian cricket history, and Rahane accomplished this feat without the best 7/8 players.

Other than Australia, credit goes to Rahane’s name for winning the Test Match against Afghanistan as well. Of the 5 matches in which Rahane has captained, India won 4 and tied 1 Test Match which was played in Sydney. That is why if we look at the winning record then it is 80 percent and the winning percentage of any Indian Test captain who has captained at least 5 matches is not that high.
