Mohanlal’s crime thriller ‘Drishyam’ is a massive hit in Malayalam cinema. Ajay Devgn remade it in Hindi, which was also a huge success. Now, ‘Drishyam 3’ is coming, but there’s a twist. The makers of the Malayalam version have decided to release it in Hindi at the same time as the original. This could be a big blow to Ajay Devgn and his fans. The original ‘Drishyam 2’ starring Mohanlal was released directly on OTT in 2021 due to the pandemic. Ajay Devgn then released the Hindi remake in 2022, which grossed around ₹350 crores worldwide. Recently, Ajay Devgn confirmed he would soon start working on ‘Drishyam 3’. However, this new development might spoil his plans.
What’s happening with ‘Drishyam 3’?
Mohanlal and director Jeethu Joseph have confirmed ‘Drishyam 3’ is happening. According to a report by ‘Mid-Day’, they’re targeting Hindi-speaking audiences because the franchise is already popular in North India due to the remake. The makers plan to release ‘Drishyam 3’ in both Malayalam and Hindi simultaneously. This is a big deal as many South Indian films are now being released across India and doing well.
- The film’s makers are considering a pan-India release.
- South Indian films are making big money in North India.
A different story for the Hindi version
Interestingly, the Hindi version of ‘Drishyam 3’ will have a different story from the Malayalam one. This is a change from the previous films in the franchise, where both the original and remake had the same story. The Malayalam producers say they’re still working on the Hindi script. Shooting for ‘Drishyam 3’ is expected to begin by the end of May 2025.
