Airplane passenger lands after pilot becomes unwell

The pilot of a small private plane from the Bahamas to reach Palm Beach in the United States suffered from discomfort on Tuesday. Problem: no passenger had piloting experience to successfully land the aircraft.

One of them finally decided to launch, supported via the radio by an air traffic controller, reports CNN in an article relayed by BFM TV.

“I felt like I was going to cry”

“I don’t know how to fly. I don’t know how to stop this thing if I get to the tarmac,” one can hear in a radio recording. The passenger had just launched an SOS to the air traffic control authorities.

“I tried to keep him calm. He was really calm. I felt like I was going to cry, there was so much adrenaline, “said the air traffic controller, according to comments reported by the American media.

“Try to keep the wings horizontal”

The air traffic controller’s advice is heard in the recording: “Try to keep the wings level. See if you can start to descend. Descend at a very slow pace.”

The passenger finally managed to land the plane after an almost miraculous landing. For his part, the pilot who fell ill was transferred to the hospital. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has opened an investigation into this incident.
