A devastating plane crash has killed over 200 people. The Air India flight was headed to London with 242 people on board. It crashed into a hospital building where medical staff lived.
The local police chief told the BBC that they have found 204 bodies so far. But they don’t know if all the dead were on the plane or on the ground.
The airline says there were 169 Indians, 53 Brits, 7 Portuguese, and 1 Canadian on the flight.
The plane hit a building used as a residence for doctors and medical staff. One woman who survived said her son barely made it out alive. He jumped from a second-floor window as the building caught fire.
A flight tracking website called Flightradar24 says it last got a signal from the plane when it was just 625 feet off the ground. The crash happened just seconds after takeoff.
The cause of the crash is still being investigated by Indian aviation and safety officials.
