Under the captaincy of Aiden Markram, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team made history by winning the South African T20 Cricket League title for the second consecutive year. In the final, the Sunrisers team defeated the Durban Super Giants in a one-sided game by 89 runs. Under the captaincy of Markram, the Sunrisers team looked the most dominant all season. But do you know that there was a time when Markram decided to quit cricket when he was just 17 years old? However, following the advice of his mentor and friends, he returned to the field and is now Africa’s most successful captain.
2012 was the same year that Markram wanted to quit cricket, aged just 17. The reason for this was actually because he was not included in the Northern Gauteng team at the time. Disappointed by his lack of selection, Markram wanted to leave the game. But mentors and friends supported Markram during this difficult time and brought him back to the field.
When Aiden Markram came back onto the field, it seemed as if the doors of his happiness were opening. He continuously showed excellent performances. Due to his performance, he was named captain of the South African under-19 team in 2014. Markram’s leadership skills were good from the start. He also demonstrated this at the U19 World Cup in 2014 and made the African team world champions.
Aiden Markram’s dominance as captain was also evident in the first two seasons of the South Africa T20 Cricket League. Under the captaincy of Aiden Markram, the Sunrisers Eastern Cape team won the title in two consecutive seasons. As captain, Markram has won the U19 World Championship once and the SAT20 League title twice.
