Agents find 35 kidnapped migrants in central Mexico

Agentes hallan a 35 migrantes secuestrados en el centro de México

The Attorney General of the State of San Luis Potosí (FGESLP) and the Government of Guanajuato reported this Thursday that 35 migrants who were deprived of their liberty were released and that they could correspond to the group of people denounced as kidnapped in the state of Guanajuato, central from Mexico, two days ago.

According to a statement issued by the Prosecutor’s Office, the vast majority of these people were being transported due to a labor migration situation, as they have confirmed after interviewing them.

Although the FGESLP did not report the exact number of victims and limited itself to saying that they were "two groups of migrants"the Government of Guanajuato, a neighboring state, reported that the number rises to 35 and that they apparently come from Central America.

"35 migrants, apparently Central Americans, are located and rescued"he pointed out on his Twitter account.

Neither the exact place nor the circumstances in which the migrants were found were specified, but the authorities assured that they continue with search operations in the municipality of Matehuala, in San Luis Potosí, where they allegedly disappeared.

The Prosecutor’s Office stressed that among these people could be those who were reported missing last Tuesday in Guanajuato, although at the time it was said that there were 23 of them and they came from that state.

"Among those located could be those reported as missing in Guanajuato"he pointed out in the same social network.

They also reported the seizure of five trucks and weapons.

"It will be in the course of the next few hours when the information will be expanded, after the victims give their statement at the FGE delegation in Matehuala"the statement added.

Previously, the Governor of Guanajuato, Diego Sinhue, warned that his state established direct communication with the National Anti-kidnapping Commission (Conase) and the undersecretary of the Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection (SSPC) of Mexico, Luis Bucio, "to work in coordination with the Government of San Luis Potosí and the Prosecutors of both states to find the whereabouts of the 23 disappeared persons in San Luis Potosí".

Due to their geographical position, the states of San Luis Potosí and Guanajuato are a strategic point for organized crime groups that control and dispute regions in the center of the country.
