After user complaints, Musk extends reading limits on Twitter

The businessman Elon Musk, owner of Twitter, extended the limits on the reading of tweets that he imposed on Saturday and pointed out this Sunday the “irony” that the same tweet in which he announced them became the most read publication to date.

Musk announced on Saturday that to avoid “extreme levels of data mining and system manipulation,” verified accounts would be allowed to read a maximum of 6,000 tweets a day, unverified accounts 600 and new unverified accounts 300, though he later made concessions.

Within hours, Musk backtracked a couple of times, increasing the limits to 10,000 tweets for verified accounts, 1,000 for unverified accounts, and 500 for new unverified accounts.

Despite everything, the initial announcement of the limits caused a stir on the network, while many users reported problems accessing the content, and that first message accumulated this Sunday morning more than 455 million readings.

“In another exercise of irony, this publication has achieved a record number of views!” Said the businessman, who sarcastically commented in another message how users were reaching the reading limits “by reading over the limits” and complaining about measure.

According to the Downdetector monitoring page, the problems accessing the social network peaked after the initial announcement, with some 7,000 reports, but they normalized throughout the day and this Sunday morning they did not exceed 1,000.

Apart from that, Musk retweeted a message from a parody account, giving him a possible nod of approval, saying that the reason for imposing those limits is that “we’re all addicted to Twitter and we need to get outside.”

He himself made a comment that seemed to hint at that idea on Sunday: “You wake up from a deep trance, you walk away from the phone to see your friends and family.”
