In a context marked by the murder of Father Olivier Maire, the prefects received a request from the Ministry of the Interior to strengthen the surveillance of churches and places of worship for the Feast of the Assumption, this Sunday, August 15.
“The persistence of a high level of threat (terrorist) against our country and recent events require special attention in symbolic sites or sites that bring together many people in this period,” wrote Minister Gerald Darmanin, reveals the ‘AFP. His objective for Sunday should be “to identify the most sensitive sites, know the places and times of the ceremonies, and thus define the protection measures to be implemented.”
The Interior Minister reminded them that the Sentinel force soldiers “could usefully mobilize” and “must be dissuasive and visible” for the Assumption.
The funeral of Father Olivier Maire, killed on Monday by an irregular Rwandan who was staying in his religious community, will take place on Friday at 2:30 p.m. in the Saint-Laurent-sur-Sèvre basilica. Justice Minister Eric Dupond-Moretti is expected to represent the government.
