After the coronation of Charles III, Camilla will officially be “queen”

Camilla, the wife of Charles III has had several titles since her marriage to the king in 2005. She was first Duchess of Cornwall, then Princess Consort and finally Queen Consort of the United Kingdom.

This Tuesday, the royal family unveiled on social networks the invitation card to the coronation of the monarch, which will take place on May 6, 2023. And on this document, Camilla Parker Bowles now has a new title: queen. She thus acquires all the powers of a monarch, reports the HuffPost.

The coronation, an “opportune moment”

While some Britons suspected that moment would come, Buckingham Palace had long avoided the ‘Queen question’, according to the Guardian. Considered the mere replacement for Princess Diana for years, Camilla has struggled to find her place in the hearts of the English.

During her lifetime, Elizabeth II had also made it known that she wanted her daughter-in-law to be called queen consort. For his part, Charles had been asking for several years that his wife be given the title of queen when the day came.

“It made sense to call Her Majesty Queen Consort in the early months of Her Majesty’s reign, to distinguish her from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II,” a palace source said. But British royalty officials and handlers have deemed the coronation of Charles III an “opportune moment” to begin officially calling Camilla “Queen”.
