KABUL: The Afghan Taliban have taken control of Sheberghan, the capital of Jowzjan province.
According to the details, Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said the Taliban captured Sheberghan, the capital of Jowzjan province, which is the second provincial capital to be captured by the Taliban.
According to local media, fierce fighting is taking place in many areas of Sheberghan city, the Taliban have managed to take control of most of the government buildings and the city, fighting continues over the government-controlled airport.
It should be recalled that the Taliban had also captured Zaranj yesterday, the provincial capital of the southwestern province of Nimroz. The Nimroz police had complained that no army had been sent to fight the militants and no new police aid had been provided.
Other provincial capitals of Afghanistan where fierce fighting is taking place include Herat in the west and Lashkar Gah in the south.
