Afghan migrants: “We do not overcome situations of despair”, defends Julien Bayou

On the first day of the “Ecological Summer Days”, which opened this Thursday, August 19 in Poitiers (Vienne), Julien Bayou returned to the controversial statements of Emmanuel Macron who, last Monday, had estimated that Europe must “protect itself against important irregularities migratory flows ”from Afghanistan.

Asked by CNEWS from Blossac Park, which is hosting the European Ecology-Les Verts (EELV) summer university until Sunday, the national secretary of the environmental party thus reiterated his criticism of the head of state on the Afghan issue.

For Julien Bayou, Emmanuel Macron is on this issue “below everything.” “We do not classify between desperation situations,” he said.

Likewise, while several ecologist and socialist mayors, including the councilors of Marseille, Grenoble and Laval, have said that they are ready to receive refugees from Afghanistan, a country that fell into the hands of the Taliban on August 15, Julien Bayou continued on his way. .

“The Head of State spoils the notion of asylum,” he said, without however leaving clearly indicating what the means, logistical or financial, could be implemented by the green municipalities in the reception of Afghans.

As a reminder, during his speech on Monday August 16 on the situation in Afghanistan, Emmanuel Macron declared that “Europe alone cannot bear the consequences of the current situation” and that “we must anticipate and protect ourselves from significant irregular migratory flows that would endanger who use them and feed traffic of all kinds ”.

But if the President of the Republic had been careful to remember that “France is doing and will continue to fulfill its duty to protect those most threatened,” his words had sparked criticism, especially on the left of the political chessboard. .
