Afghan Medical Help: India has supplied six tonnes of essential medicines as part of humanitarian aid to war-ravaged Afghanistan and handed it over to the Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul. According to the Ministry of External Affairs, “India today supplied the seventh consignment which includes six tonnes of essential medicines as part of medical assistance to Afghanistan. This is part of the humanitarian aid released by India. It has been handed over to Indira Gandhi Hospital in Kabul.

So far India has sent 20 tonnes of medicines to Afghanistan

India has so far supplied 20 tonnes of medicines in seven consignments in view of the appeal of the United Nations to help the people of Afghanistan. In which 5 lakh doses of life saving drug, anti-TB drug, anti-Covid vaccine are included. The ministry said the consignment of medicines has been handed over to the World Health Organization (WHO) and Indira Gandhi Children’s Hospital, Kabul.

India sent relief material first after the earthquake

India was the first to extend a helping hand in the wake of the recent catastrophic earthquake in Afghanistan, with two planes supplying about 28 tonnes of relief material. Apart from this, India has so far provided food aid in the form of 35 thousand metric tonnes of wheat, the ministry said. The relief assistance sent by India includes family tents, sleeping bags, blankets, mats and other essential materials.

The recent earthquake in eastern Afghanistan killed 1,000 people and injured 1,500 others. According to the ministry statement, these relief persecutions have been handed over to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA), United Nations World Food Program (WFP), Red Crescent Society of Afghanistan.

India is in the process of supplying more medical aid and wheat to Afghanistan in coordination with UN agencies.
