The world of Bollywood is no stranger to controversy, and the latest revelation from actor Adi Irani is sure to send shockwaves through the industry. In a recent interview with Filmi Mantra Media, Irani shared his disappointing experience of being replaced in Zoya Akhtar’s film “Dil Dhadakne Do” without being informed. This isn’t the first time Irani has spoken out against a big name in the industry; earlier, he had made some scathing comments about Salman Khan. Now, he’s come forward to reveal the details of how he was abruptly axed from Akhtar’s project, and it’s a story that’s equal parts shocking and intriguing.
According to Irani, he had auditioned not once, but twice for “Dil Dhadakne Do”, and had even been selected for a key role. He recalled, “There was a film, ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’, directed by Zoya Akhtar, which had a complete group of her friends in it. I auditioned for one of the main characters and was selected – I was liked by them. Later, Zoya called me and asked if I would audition again. She took my audition herself and was very pleased with it.” Irani’s account suggests that everything seemed to be going smoothly, but little did he know that his role would soon be given to someone else.
What Adi Irani told Zoya Akhtar
Irani revealed that he had made a request to Akhtar, expressing his desire to prioritize quality over quantity in the film. He wanted to ensure that his role was substantial and meaningful, rather than just being a part of the project for the sake of it. Akhtar had reportedly agreed to consider his request, telling him that she would call him only if she had a role that suited him. Irani believed that Akhtar might have misinterpreted his request, thinking that he was looking for a more powerful role. This misunderstanding may have led to his eventual replacement in the film.
Adi Irani was replaced by Parmeet Sethi
Irani claimed that he was initially chosen for the role that eventually went to Parmeet Sethi, the husband of Archana Puran Singh. However, at the time, Irani was busy shooting for “Welcome Back”, and Anil Kapoor had apparently told him that he was also working on Akhtar’s film. During the shoot, Irani received a call from Akhtar, who asked him to meet her after the shoot. But before he could do so, he was abruptly replaced without being informed. This lack of communication has left Irani feeling unhappy and unappreciated.
Adi Irani was removed from the project without being told
Irani expressed his disappointment and confusion over the whole ordeal, stating, “I don’t know what happened – they chose Parmeet Sethi, and I wasn’t even informed about it. I don’t know what happened when everything was already finalized, and Zoya had taken my audition herself. I didn’t even ask – it was her choice. She’s unprofessional, but I don’t know what her problem was. It’s difficult for an actor to be told that they’ve been replaced. People in the industry are not very clear or open – everyone is two-faced.” Irani’s words paint a picture of an industry where professionalism and clear communication are often lacking, leaving actors like him feeling undervalued and disrespected.
