A Mumbai court has denied actor Ajaz Khan anticipatory bail in a rape case. The Additional Sessions Judge, Dindoshi Court, Dattu Dhobale, rejected Khan’s plea, stating that custodial interrogation was necessary given the nature and severity of the allegations.
Allegations Against Ajaz Khan
The prosecution alleged that Khan lured the victim, an actress, into a relationship by misusing his position as a celebrity and reality show host to gain her trust. The FIR claimed that Khan made physical advances towards the victim under false pretenses of marriage, financial assistance, and career advancement, all without her consent.
Defense Arguments
Khan’s lawyer argued that his client was falsely implicated and that the relationship between Khan and the victim was consensual. The defense presented WhatsApp chats and audio recordings to the court, suggesting the victim demanded money to withdraw the case.
Court’s Decision
The prosecution countered that custodial interrogation was essential to investigate the allegations and that Khan’s criminal record and potential to tamper with evidence or influence witnesses were concerns. After hearing both sides, the court ruled that Khan’s custody was necessary for further investigation, including questioning and collecting evidence. The court rejected Khan’s plea, stating that granting anticipatory bail could lead to evidence tampering or witness intimidation.
