Ac. Viseu Goalkeeper Gril Returns After 10 Months, Stars in Cup Win

Goalkeeper Domen Gril has dramatically reasserted his claim for Ac. Viseu’s starting position following a pivotal performance in the Portuguese Cup and the debut of new coach Sérgio Fonseca.

The 24-year-old Slovenian goalkeeper was fundamental in securing a victory against Gil Vicente, marking his first appearance in goal in ten months. His return coincided with Fonseca’s perfect start at the helm of the team.

Gril made several high-level saves during the match, leaving an indelible mark and demonstrating his renewed viability for the top spot. This performance has reignited his fight for a position he once held undisputed for three and a half seasons.

His recent return to prominence contrasts sharply with his standing under previous coach Sérgio Vieira. Gril had fallen to third in the goalkeeper hierarchy, seemingly out of contention.

He originally lost his starting role ten months ago to Bruno Brígido. An injury to Matheus Sampaio, who had surpassed Gril in the pecking order, ultimately opened the door for his return against Gil Vicente.
