Sunday brought few surprises in the Portuguese Cup. Académico de Viseu, a team from the Second League, made a comfortable away trip. They defeated Portalegrense, a local team from the Portalegre district league, with a solid 3-0 victory. This win moved them smoothly into the next round of the competition, proving their higher league status.
The match, played at the Municipal Stadium of Portalegre, was a story of clear dominance. Viseu controlled the game from start to finish. They built their victory with two goals in the first half and one more just before the final whistle. Kaique Santos and Samba Koné got on the scoresheet early. André Clóvis added the final touch in injury time.
Académico de Viseu held most of the ball and launched attack after attack. They broke the deadlock in the 21st minute with a penalty kick. The home team strongly protested the call, but the decision stood. Forward Kaique Santos, who had drawn the foul, calmly converted the penalty himself. Moments later, Cihan Kahraman nearly doubled the lead, hitting the left post of the Portalegrense goal with a powerful shot.
The Alentejo team struggled to get near Viseu’s goal. They mostly focused on defending their own net. The second goal felt almost inevitable. Cihan Kahraman made a good individual play. Samba Koné took advantage of a passive defense and scored, making it 2-0. Portalegrense had very few chances to worry their opponents in the first half. Their best moment came from a clearance where goalkeeper Rodrigo Carlos almost scored, but the ball sailed just over the crossbar.
The second half began just like the first. Académico de Viseu kept creating chances. However, the goalposts, the Portalegrense goalkeeper, and their defense worked hard to keep the score from getting any wider. Samba Koné, in particular, was unlucky, hitting the woodwork twice, once in the 47th minute and again right at the 90-minute mark. Meanwhile, Portalegrense couldn’t manage a single noteworthy play in the entire second period.
The game’s final goal came in the first minute of second-half injury time. André Clóvis skillfully beat an opponent. He then struck the ball with the outside of his foot into the back of the net, sealing the 3-0 score. Around 500 spectators watched the match unfold.
