AC Milan have resumed negotiations with Arsenal over the signing of defender Jakub Kiwior in the closing stages of the January transfer window. At 23, the Polish player struggled for regular playing time in the Premier League this season, starting in just four games and totaling 302 minutes in the top flight.
Since arriving at Arsenal from Spezia in January 2023, Kiwior has played a supporting role, competing with players such as William Saliba and Gabriel for a place in the central position. Nevertheless, the defender is a key member of the Polish national team, having appeared in 19 games since his debut in May 2022 and played both games for his country during the November international break.
AC Milan, one step away from finalizing a new signing: Arteta’s departure
AC Milan are in talks with Arsenal to secure Kiwior’s services, according to Calciomercato, and are looking to secure his signing in a temporary move with an option to buy in the summer. While Arsenal would be willing to consider a loan with an obligation to buy under certain conditions, Milan have a different perspective and are looking to sign the Polish defender on a temporary contract and an option to buy in the future.
Milan’s defensive needs are compounded by several injuries to the squad, including players such as Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu. Stefano Pioli, Milan’s coach, is interested in strengthening the defense this month, although the club’s financial constraints could influence what kind of deal he is willing to accept.
Kiwior, who started just one Premier League game last month, will act as an observer from the bench for Arsenal’s game against Nottingham Forest. The London team are level on points with Manchester City in the standings and are five points behind leaders Liverpool after an outstanding performance against Crystal Palace.
