Abinader on transparency: “There is nothing to hide”

President Luis Abinader stressed on Tuesday that restarting integrity is a revolutionary action.

He said that more than a year ago he had to take over the country in one of the worst conditions and with institutions affected by its credibility.

The president added that there is no serious government that does not address this issue from three key points: credibility, good practices and defined objectives.

Abinader stated that it is essential to respect the autonomy and independence of all the institutions involved in the governance of the country.

“We must always defend and fight for a rabidly independent and autonomous justice, for the external and internal control of State accounts, through transparent audits and create citizen control mechanisms so that they are involved in the daily activities of the institutions,” he said. .

He added that in terms of good practices, it is necessary, and this is a good forum for it, to discuss and implement all those methods that allow us to be more efficient in our work and at the same time more transparent and participatory.

The president pointed out that in the case of the Dominican Republic, numerous projects and decalogues of good practices have been launched through the DIGEIG that link all levels of government.

“A good example of this is our transparency portal, where anyone can access information on public contracts, tenders, salaries, plans. Everything is there, because there is nothing to hide ”, he emphasized.

Abinader spoke during the Regional Policy Dialogue on Transparency and Integrity organized by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organization for Cooperation and Economic Development (OECD) together with the General Directorate of Government Ethics and Integrity (DIGEIG).
